Just something simple I did at work during some down time. Hand drawn and scanned into Photoshop.
This game hit arcades in 1981 and is still one of the best. Did you know in Donkey Kong Country for SNES the character “Cranky Kong” is actually the original Donkey Kong and you play as Donkey Kong Jr. grown up?
So I finally got around to playing Super Mario Galaxy and got a ‘lil idea. I’m a retro gamer and since I adore the classic Mario games I figured why not design some cabinet art as if Super Mario Galaxy was made in the late 80’s as an arcade game.
So I came up with this:
I looked at the old Mario Bros arcade cabinet side art for inspiration. Just flat colors. Simple shapes.
I even did this for fun:
You think that looks right for the era?
So you’re 12 years old. It’s Friday afternoon and you’re in your local arcade with a fist full of quarters.Would you play this game?
Been on a Mario binge lately. I can’t get enough of that chubby little plumber.
Also for those interested there’s a couple new Zen Arcade Strips up at the Tumblr. It’s all going somewhere trust me. We’re going to get a few more strips down and launch a nice clean looking site to host them.
In other news there could be a big change to the website in the coming week. I feel that I’m pretty close to getting a career position that I’ve been wanting. If I get it…I’m turning heel. I’m switching up this sites look and I’m going to drop some pipebombs. Stay tuned.
