Digital Painting: Franken-Strange

Untitled-1
Glenn Strange as The Monster. Time Spent: 14 hours

Boy oh boy. Remember a year ago when I said my goal for 2017 was to get better at painting? Of course you don’t remember but I said it. I did 4 or 5 digital paintings and by March I slipped back into my comfortable style. Well I’m starting up again. One of my favorite artists has to be Basil Gogos of Famous Monsters of Filmland fame. We lost him last year, so think of this as a tribute and learning experience.

So what did I learn?

  1. Basil Gogos is on a whole ‘nother level.
  2.  It takes forever.

I’m getting so much more confident with line work! But guess what? I still stink at coloring. So that’s the next goal I’ve gotta work on. But, overall, I like how this came out. Off to the weekend! Make sure to check out my horror themed comic stripe “Night Bumps” hitting this very site every Sunday!

Watercolor Women: Sunny Bunny

Time Spent: About 4 hours.

It’s been a while since I’ve done another watercolor woman. I figured it was that time again. This makes number 7 in the series. I like doing these because they’re minimal in composition and execution. From the linework to the colors. I’m one of those people that have to put something everywhere and with these I know they’ll look better if I don’t. So they become therapeutic in a way.
