The Return and Possible Departure Of EO

I enjoy Disney World. Duh. You should know that. On my recent trip I seen a favorite childhood attraction of mine: Captain Eo. Brought back after the death of the King of Pop(:() the 3D movie is seen as a dated letdown by most Disney elitists nowadays. The Imagination Pavilion (Where EO is located) is being closed down for construction in January. I’m not quite sure what will happen to Captain EO once this construction is completed. I assume it will be removed for another attraction. It’s been over 4 years since MJ has passed afterall. But regardless October 22nd, 2013 might have just been the last time I saw something so nostalgic to me. I made this poster for fun since development time has been on the SLOW side lately. The characters on the poster are also hand vectored btw. No lazy filtering here. I also color swapped one. Which do you prefer?

I’ve embedded the full movie below if anyone is interested in seeing the actual film. A fair warning…it’s oddly paced, very corny, and quite dated. But one thing that made me happy was walking out of the movie and hearing children behind me raving about it. That was cool to hear 🙂

Spent the night making an entry for a Star Wars Dark Side contest being held on WeLoveFine.com.

You can have up to 5 entries…so here’s my first one: Boba Fett.

I hand drew Boba and scanned him into photoshop to add the color and “splatter” effect. I also submitted it to 3 or 4 shirt design websites because these wouldn’t make a bad shirt. If those sites stop with the excessive amout of half assed Doctor Who and Adventure Time parody designs maybe they can make way for some variety. But I doubt they will.

Anyway, I think there’s a voting aspect to the design so I’ll update when it’s on the website also.

Here’s 5 dollars…go see a Star War

So in my boredom it took it upon myself to redesign one of the most iconic characters of all time: Darf Vaydur.

Mcquarrie’s early designs for Vader were amazing (as is all of his art really). That helmet design is friggen PERFECT.

So I did my own little take on Darth.

The whole thing while drawing this is like, how much do I change? I wanted to keep key parts like the helmet and cape. I don’t want to go so deep into it that I show it and people don’t think it’s Vader AT ALL. That’s missing the point. The thing that always bugged me about Vader in the films is that I knew he was just a guy in a suit. Chewbacca, 3PO, Artoo, even Greedo….they’re not just guys in suits. I just didn’t believe that Vader was like 80% machine under there. So I drew him lean. He’s got this robotic claws. All his little machine parts like his lite bright chest box etc. I decided to take out…because that shit looks important…so why would you display that to everybody? Hide it. When Vader confronts his men and gives orders I wanted Storm Troopers to half listen but also just look at this dude. Be like, “What IS this guy?”.

That’s the whole thing. What is this guy? Human? Droid? Both? Regardless he’s pure evil.
