Here’s 5 dollars…go see a Star War

So in my boredom it took it upon myself to redesign one of the most iconic characters of all time: Darf Vaydur.

Mcquarrie’s early designs for Vader were amazing (as is all of his art really). That helmet design is friggen PERFECT.

So I did my own little take on Darth.

The whole thing while drawing this is like, how much do I change? I wanted to keep key parts like the helmet and cape. I don’t want to go so deep into it that I show it and people don’t think it’s Vader AT ALL. That’s missing the point. The thing that always bugged me about Vader in the films is that I knew he was just a guy in a suit. Chewbacca, 3PO, Artoo, even Greedo….they’re not just guys in suits. I just didn’t believe that Vader was like 80% machine under there. So I drew him lean. He’s got this robotic claws. All his little machine parts like his lite bright chest box etc. I decided to take out…because that shit looks important…so why would you display that to everybody? Hide it. When Vader confronts his men and gives orders I wanted Storm Troopers to half listen but also just look at this dude. Be like, “What IS this guy?”.

That’s the whole thing. What is this guy? Human? Droid? Both? Regardless he’s pure evil.

WHOOOOOOO PAH

WHOOOOOOO PAH

  1. Very cool redesign, man. There are many ways to go wrong with redesigning a classic character like this, but you didn’t at all. He looks badass like this.
