Ho ho, how ’bout that Kong vs. Godzilla trailer? Am I right or what, fellow kids? I’ve been on a Godzilla kick lately (I mean, for about the past 17 years actually) and I realize I rarely ever draw the big guy. I based this off his mid 1990s Trendmasters/Dark Horse look. That’s my favorite Godzilla but that’s simply because I was introduced to him that way via toys and comics.
This didn’t turn out quite how I wanted it to color and perspective wise. But I felt the need to post it so I can move on and improve. I really hope I have the opportunity to see Kong v. Godzilla: Dawn of Justice on the big screen on theaters…because I feel a movie like that truly warrants it. You took so much away from so many, COVID, don’t take away our monster battles too.
The process of intricately drawing robots and rereading some Claremont X-Men titles led me to drawing this bad boy. Right off the bat, the biggest challenge with this piece was not drawing thick bold lines as I almost always do. And, looking back, I can still draw thinner. And I feel this drawing in particular would’ve benefitted from that. Moving forward I shall take the approach. Anyway, I like how this turned out. It fun to sort of map out a drawing and just “pick” at it throughout the week. Some dings and dents here…some miss-wiring there…and there you go.
Inspired by Masters of the Universe‘s Mer-man, I decided to draw this oceanic terror extra gross and goopy. I sort of forced myself to color him last minute, but couldn’t agree on a color scheme. So I uploaded both versions. I’m selling some prints of both color schemes at my store if interested. Stickers as well (he loves adorning water bottles).
Also, here’s an interview with me from the Google Web Creators blog about my Ninja Turtle musings and this very site! They’ll also be sharing my art and junk through their insta as well as many other awesome web creators’ projects.
